WP1 – Administration

WPL : OpenEdition

Participants : all WPL

Objectives : Coordination of the project, Quality management

  • Administrative, financial and legal management

  • Coordination of the work plan

  • Coordination of technical developments and services implementation – including data management

    WP2 – Identification

    WPL : EKT

Participants : Oapen, OpenEdition, MWS, UGOE, Dariah_EU

Objectives : WP2 will add unique and standardized identifiers to the documents and to information attached to the document:

    • identify documents : DOI

    • identify authors : ORCID

WP2 Linking and embedding SSH monographs in the European e-infrastructure ecosystem

Objective of this WP is to develop tools (services?) and mechanisms in view of integrating open access monographs produced by the OPERAS network partners in the SSH in the wider European e-infrastructure ecosystem. Focus will be laid on the linkability of content, in particular book references (through DOIs), metadata alignment and entity definition in the works of the platforms, as well as improvement of a select set of tools, that will become services embedded in them from now on

T2.1 Enhanced references. Aim of this task will be to test and, where necessary, to improve a tool developed by OpenEdition, Bilbo, which structures and then checks references against existing databases (in particular crossref) and corrects them, thus producing structured and linkable information.

T2.2 Enhancing and mainstreaming author IDs. Implementation of ORCID in all platforms

      WP3 – Entity recognition

      WPL : DARIAH-EU

Participants : OAPEN, OpenEdition, MWS, UGOE

Objectives : WP3 will add unique and standardized identifiers to the documents and to information attached to the document.

      • identify named entities : NERD

T3.1 Entity recognition. NERD NERD will identify and disambiguate entities mentioned in text. The process includes a Named Entity Recogniser for identifying open entities in text (such as person, places, dates, etc.) based on CRF and a disambiguation of entities against Wikipedia and FreeBases entries, for example. This can form the basis of semantically linking and then mapping and visualising themes and concepts across multiple texts.

T3.2 Linking publications to research data

T3.3 Embedding into European e-infrastructures (I am wondering whether we should have a WP specifically for this, just because the call places an emphasis on this or not)

        WP4 – Certification

        WPL : OAPEN

Participants : OpenEdition, all others for validation

Objectives : WP4 will add a standardized description of peer-review process and license to the documents using DOAB certification service

        • automatize upload of monographs metadata to DOAB

        • certification of peer-reviewing process

        • certification of licensing

          WP5 – Open annotation

          WPL : Ubiquity

Participants : UGOE, OpenEdition, Oapen, UniTO, MWS, Dariah_EU, OBP

Objectives : WP5 will implement an open annotation layer on top of the platforms using Annotator, if possible, attribute unique identifiers to the annotations and add the data to the documents. It will experiment peer-reviewing using the open annotation layer

          • implement hypothes.is

          • attribute IDs the the annotations

          • experiment OPR to monographs

            WP6 – Usage Metrics

            WPL : Ubiquity

Participants : OpenEdition, UGOE, EKT, KU, OAPEN, OBP

Objectives : The work package will provide the altmetrics and citations metrics, as well as a widget to display all metrics on the partners’ websites. Open Book Publishers will provide metrics for views and downloads. The objective is to provide a reliable, accurate, and standardised metrics service across all of the partners’ platforms.

Visitors to the platforms should find the metrics familiar and trustworthy.

The service architecture will be open to future expansion by third parties with additional metrics sources. There must be a guaranteed level of service to mitigate reputational damage for any of the platforms involved. The system will be fully open source, and as such capable of being transferred to any third party for operation in the future, with no loss of functionality.

WP7 – Community Outreach and Exploitation

            WPL : UGOE

Participants : AEUP, EKT, MWS; UniTO

Objectives : WP7 will engage the different stakeholders to the projects : academics, libraries, teachers and the general public (open annotation).

In this work package we will apply a holistic approach to design HIRMEOS’ mode of communication and outreach, to strengthen HIRMEOS’ international network and core mission to foster the joint development and aligned implementation of state-of-the-art services, and to reach out to all relevant stakeholders and communities in reserarch and the public in order to safeguard that HIRMEOS’ services for scholarly monographs are aligned and interoperable with existing infrastructures for Open Science (e.g. OpenAIRE, DARIAH-EU) and stakeholders’ and communities’ needs.

Activities:

            • Communication and outreach strategy

            • Dissemination
